Rick Rubin Says Kanye West Could Release ‘Yeezus’ Part 2

Kanye West had so much material for his latest album Yeezus that he could release a second part, according to producer Rick Rubin, who says West brought him 3 and a half hours worth of unfinished music just 5 weeks before the album was due out.

Speaking to Newsweek, Rubin said Yeezy was completely unphased by the task of getting Yeezus ready for release, asking the legendary producer to axe his vacation time to help him complete it.

Of the production, Rubin said, “There was so much material we could really pick which direction it was going to go. The idea of making it minimal and edgy and hard was Kanye’s.”

He reiterated that there was plenty of material left over:

“Initially, he thought there were going to be 16 songs on the album. But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, “Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half.” That was one of the first breakthroughs. Kanye was like, “That’s what I came here today to hear! It could be 10 songs!”

And when bluntly asked if Yeezus Part 2 was a possibility, he replied, “Might be.”

Yeezus is currently sitting at the top of the ARIA charts after an initial data error placed Ye’s eighth studio effort at number 2 behind Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey‘s anthology of country western covers, The Great Country Songbook.
