Sam Smith Books Vocal Cord Surgery After Cancelling Australian Tour

After cancelling his four remaining Australian tour dates and his performance at The Logies late last month, British singer Sam Smith has revealed that he has been booked in for surgery on his vocal cords.

Taking to social media, Smith shared the bad news with fans, saying:

Dear all: I am very upset to announce I have been battling to get my vocal cords better the last 10 days but unfortunately they haven’t recovered and I am going to need surgery. I’m so gutted to be missing all the shows and events I was meant to be playing at. The doctors say I will be back in 6-8 weeks and I cannot wait to sing for you all soon.

In an accompanying caption to his statement on Instagram (below) Smith says he’s “getting really nervous” for the surgery, which is booked for some time next week.

Smith recently played shows in Sydney and Brisbane but cancelled the remainder of his Australian tour after suffering a haemorrhage on his vocal chords. He left Australia in the days following those two shows, and saw a specialist in the US.

The injury Smith sustained has also led him to cancel shows in Japan and the Philippines.

Smith’s loyal Aussie fans are no doubt wishing him a speedy recovery, so he can be back down under as soon as possible.
