Slipknot Stream New Single ‘The Devil In I’

Iowa heavy metal icons Slipknot have shared new song The Devil In I, the first single to be taken from their forthcoming fifth studio album, which is still without an official release date or title.

The Devil In Ibegins with a pummelling metal rhythm, before teaming melodic guitar riffs with erratic percussion from the band’s new, yet-to-be-named drummer. Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor recently told BBC Radio 1 that The Devil In I is “completely different” to the band’s other new track The Negative One. “[The Devil In I is] more melodic, but it’s dark, it’s powerful, man. It’s something different. People are gonna lose their minds,” Taylor said.

The band’s next album will follow 2008’s All Hope Is Gone, and will be the group’s first without founding drummer Joey Jordison, who departed the band last year, and founding bassist Paul Gray, who died in 2010.

The identity of Slipknot’s newest drummer has remained “under wraps” since Jordison left the group under mysterious circumstances. Jordison explained in January this year that, despite the band saying he left for “personal reasons”, he actually “did not quit Slipknot”.

Slipknot will headline Soundwave 2015, but will not be playing Sidewaves.
