Slipknot Stream New Song ‘The Negative One’

Written by Greg Moskovitch on August 2, 2014

After weeks of teasing fans with mysterious and increasingly creepy teaser clips, Slipknot have unveiled their first new song in six years, The Negative One. The new track answers several questions about the band’s recent social media activity and will receive a music video on 5th August.

Earlier this week, the band shared their fifth clip with fans, while frontman Corey Taylor teased fans via Twitter with a potential announcement set for Friday. The band began sharing the clips earlier in the month, as anticipation continues to mount for the band’s long-awaited fifth studio album.

Thursday’s video came with a new caption, which the band had been sharing alongside the videos on social media. It now appears that the captions were in fact lyrics from The Negative One, which it’s now confirmed is also the source for the audio that was featured in the teaser videos.

Readers can check out the slithery guitars and headbanging rhythm of The Negative One below or by heading over to the Slipknot website where it is currently streaming. Visitors are able to “unlock” the track for a single listen, but must sign up to the Slipknot mailing list to hear the track again.

Early last month, Taylor revealed that Slipknot’s new album is currently being mixed and the band will spend “the next couple of months” getting fans to “slowly but surely… lose their minds.” The album will be the band’s first without late bassist Paul Gray and former drummer Joey Jordison.
