Armlock have shared their first new music of 2025: A stand-alone single entitled ‘Strobe’. It follows on from the band’s second studio album Seashell Angel Lucky Charm, which was released in July 2024, as well as their freshly-released Audiotree Live EP from last month. Prior to its release, the Melbourne indie duo premiered the track live while on tour with Ceres throughout March.
In a press statement, the band – composed of vocalist/guitarist Simon Lim and guitarist Hamish Mitchell – described the song as being “about cherishing the small, grounding moments amidst life’s chaos and challenges”. “It’s a reflection on commitments — both to others and to oneself — framed by a sense of cyclical motion, resilience, and the urge to return to what matters most,” they said.
An accompanying music video for the song has also been shared, which was filmed by the duo themselves while on tour internationally throughout 2024. “It draws heavy influence from self-made, DIY lip-sync videos more common in rap than indie rock,” they said. “We blended crossfaded tour footage with jarring overlays of stock visuals: fireworks, rosary beads, binary code, and relentless digitally rendered strobes.
“The result flirts with the uncanny sheen of AI-generated content that we’re rapidly becoming accustomed to. Rather than serving as a direct extension of the song’s meaning, the video clip is more of a time capsule. A collage of cultural references, personal inspirations, and all the backdrop of the digital-era zeitgeist.”
Armlock – ‘Strobe’
Next week will see the band returning to the UK and Europe for a headlining tour, where they will be joined for several dates by fellow Australian band Gauci. Tonight (May 2nd), Armlock will play a headlining show at The Tote in Melbourne, marking their last hometown show for the foreseeable future as they focus on international touring and opportunities. The final remaining tickets for the show are on sale now via Oztix.
