Soft Play Drop New Deluxe Album ‘Heavier Jelly’

Last year, UK punk duo Soft Play unleashed their first album in six years Heavy Jelly to critical acclaim and a #3 chart debut in their home country. Combining raging punk, nu-metal attacks and slamming hardcore moments, the record was quickly lauded as the band’s greatest work to date.

Now, Soft Play have kept the hype train chugging along with the release of a 17-track deluxe edition of their almighty comeback LP, dubbed… wait for it… Heavier Jelly.

The expanded version of the record comes packing a whopping six bonus tracks, including a previously released collab with English singer-songwriter Kate Nash dubbed ‘Slushy’. These additional tracks off Heavier Jelly were recorded during the original album sessions, as well as more recent studio visits.

“These songs are the bastard children of Heavy Jelly, strange experimentations/ delusions that didn’t fit the mould,” Soft Play’s Laurie Vincent explains in a press statement. “I’m excited for our fans to get a glimpse into some more music that came from the world of Heavy Jelly. Strap in.”

Notably, the original title track ‘Heavy Jelly’ is among the six new tracks that didn’t make the cut for the original 30-minute LP. But it arrives now as part of the deluxe version; in all of its Irish folk-influenced glory.

“It’s an abstract ballad, an ode to the record itself,” Vincent adds. “It didn’t sit right amongst the original tracklisting but it was too special not to release.”
