Soundwave Has A Brand-New Supergroup To Announce

Soundwave 2015 organisers are keeping fans on their toes and following their announcement earlier today that the acts named on this afternoon’s third lineup were the “final” ones to be added to the massive festival bill, they’ve gone ahead and teased the addition of another “brand new supergroup” to the Soundwave 2015 family.

“We still have 1 more surprise for you #SW15. A brand new supergroup so secret squirrel – am not allowed to announce them in advance,” wrote AJ Maddah on Twitter earlier today. Maddah previously promised a “Justice League Of Rock” supergroup would be added to the Soundwave lineup and seemed to come through with that promise when last month’s supplementary lineup included Killer Be Killed, who released their self-titled debut studio album earlier this year.

Featuring Soundwave alum like The Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato, Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera, Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders and drummer extraordinaire Dave Elitch, Killer Be Killed definitely fit the widely accepted criteria for what constitutes a supergroup. Still, it’s worth noting here, Maddah’s original tweet referred to the plural “supergroups” and, obviously, why book one supergroup when you can book two?

This news may not even be the last lineup-related “surprise” Soundwave have in stall for us. On Twitter today, following the third lineup announcement, Maddah mused that now Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk will be heading to the festival to play with Smashing Pumpkins, he might just try and convince him to “pull double shift” and bring along his bandmates Delila Paz and Edgey Pires from The Last Internationale.

When Maddah first teased the supergroup announcement, fans on social media quickly began speculating on who the mystery group, or groups, may be. Guesses included new supergroup Dead Men Walking, whose core members include The Living End’s Chris Cheney, Captain Sensible of The Damned, Slim Jim Phantom of Stray Cats and Mike Peters of the Alarm. They’ve only played a couple of shows in Los Angeles and according to their website they are currently taking a short hiatus.

Other names included international rock supergroup The Dead Daises as well as Kill Devil Hill, The Winery Dogs and The Damned Things, though all these acts don’t actually fit Maddah’s “brand new” band criteria. All will hopefully be revealed soon.
