UPDATE: Splendour In The Grass 2018 Lineup Announced

ORIGINAL (FAKE) STORY: The team behind Splendour In The Grass has announced that their beloved festival will not be taking place in Byron Bay in 2018, after the venue which hosts the annual shindig failed to extend its approval period for next year’s event.

Splendour’s current home, North Byron Parklands, is no longer able to hold Splendour 2018, as its Government-sanctioned approval period expires at the end of 2017. Splendour In The Grass will still take place at North Byron Parklands this July, but the event has been without a home for 2018 for some time.

Splendour co-founders Jess Ducrou and Paul Piticco, who are currently booking acts for Splendour 2018, tell Music Feeds that they’re hoping to secure at least 401 acts for next year’s festival.

To accomodate for the huge lineup and massive audience, they’ve also confirmed that they’ll be leasing the entire northern half of Tasmania for the festival.

“The festival will be based at Devonport’s main golf course in Tasmania’s north, but other stages will be sprawled out across the top half of the state,” Ducrou says.

“Tickets to the festival will also include a chartered Spirit of Tasmania ferry across Bass Strait, between Melbourne and Devonport.”

“Splendour 2018 will also feature a Tasmanian devil petting zoo, and will be MC’d by My Kitchen Rules‘ Tassie sweethearts Damo and Caz Aherne,” says Piticco.

It’s also been confirmed that the 401 artists on the 2018 Splendour lineup will be announced really f*cking slowly by triple j‘s ‘Breakfast’ hosts Ben and Liam.

In a statement to Music Feeds, Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman says Splendour’s big move to Tassie will be a boon for the state.

“We’re very excited to announce that Splendour In The Grass will be taking over the entirety northern half of Tasmania in 2018. The festival will bring millions of dollars into the local economy, and we’d love to continue hosting it into the future, and hopefully expand it across the entire state.

“We’re announcing this on April Fool’s Day, but I can guarantee you it’s all legit.”

It’s unclear if Splendour In The Grass will return to Tasmania in 2019 and beyond, but tbh organisers would be silly not to.
