Melbourne’s Sugar Mountain Festival will no longer see an appearance from New Yorker Anthony Naples in 2015. Luckily, organisers have now locked in sets from both London producer Steve Tony Julien, aka FunkinEven (pictured), and San Francisco producer/DJ Nick Monaco.
In a press release, Sugar Mountain organisers have said Anthony Naples has cancelled his 2015 Australian tour and his Sugar Mountain performance “due to scheduling commitments”.
Making up for that loss, FunkinEven will bring his hip hop, early hardcore and drum’n’bass-infused rhythms to Sugar Mountain in January, on his second trip to Australia. Nick Monaco, who released his debut album Mating Call in September, is also prepped to bring his deep house club vibes down under, to help highlight the genesis of dance music.
“The [LGBT] community nurtured modern dance music into existence,” Monaco has said. “As dance music continues to be adopted by dominant pop culture, I think it’s important to remind ourselves about the origins of the sound.”
With just over six weeks left before Sugar Mountain, which will feature acts such as Body/Head (Kim Gordon + Bill Nace), Ariel Pink, SWANS, Nas and Midnight Juggernauts, organisers have also revealed that Boiler Room TV, the super-popular underground music show, will return to the festival in 2015.
Boiler Room will also curate its own stage, streaming sets from Soul Clap, FunkinEven, Wax’o Paradiso and Noise In My Head online.
