Summadayze Sniffer Dogs To Unleash On Perth

Perth music punters beware – the Summadayze sniffer dog patrol has you in their sights.

WA Police have warned those heading to today’s Perth leg of the festival at Sir James Mitchell Park to expect a huge crackdown on anybody who tries to smuggle illegal drugs into the venue.

Several of the canines will be on hand to check patrons for illegal substances at the venue’s sole entrance, while a sufficient police presence including officers on horses will be on hand to keep the crowd in line.

The warning comes after 56 people were arrested for drugs at the Melbourne leg of Summadayze at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Kensington Police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Andy Carson told Perth Now while the pro-drug messages from certain musical acts on the bill could encourage a percentage of listeners to indulge in illegal substances, WA Police’s message for festival-goers was very clear.

“Plan to go home in your own car, and not in ours,” he said.

Summadayze’s sniffer dog army has been panned by some punters, who have vented their thoughts on social networking sites.

Perth’s @NateDeCorsey tweeted: “Ironic that Summadayze is cracking down with drug sniffing dogs yet being headlined by a drug smoking (Snoop) Dogg.”
