Surry Hills Festival 2014 First Lineup Announced

The popular Surry Hills Festival is set for a triumphant 2014 return and organisers have now announced the music lineup for the September 27th event, headed by one-man disco machine Donny Benét and Sydney rock outfit The Laurels.

Also making the first lineup announcement are local solo singer-songwriter SpookyLand, electro-pop duo Tales In Space, a DJ set from Modular act Canyons, plus performances from the Australian Institute of Music’s emerging artists.

The 2014 event has been given the theme, “An Event of Stories, Love & Tales,” and the free festival program promises to be a family-friendly day, packed with a stellar live music lineup, pop-up showcases from local designers and performance spaces interwoven with local narratives, food and art.

This year’s festivities will be spread across the two main stages in Ward Park and Shannon Reserve as well as the Velvet Cave Stage on Hill Street. By day the street will boast the first Hill Street Record Fair, celebrating our local DJ culture and presenting an eclectic mix of vinyl from the best local dealers.

See all the acts on the first lineup announcement, below.

UPDATE 15/09/14: Surry Hills Festival organisers have announced their full lineup for the event’s 2014 instalment. Readers can check below for the full list, which now includes the folky likes of Winterbourne, the energetic Nic Cassey, ska outfit The Protestors, foot-stomping 10-piece The Fever Pitch, and more.

The two finalists from the Surry Hills Song Competition, The Library Siesta Band and The Blazing World Revival Orchestra, will also be there to hit the stage in Shannon Reserve, each performing their original works about Surry Hills before a roaring, eager crowd, to be judged by an industry panel.
