While we wait patiently for the PM’s plan for eased restrictions on indoor gatherings to materialise and thus, the road back to live music, yet another drive-in concert series has announced itself… this time in Sydney!
Sydney waterslide park Raging Waters (FKA Wet’n’Wild) has announced it’s hosting the NSW capital’s latest instalment of Drive-In Entertainment Australia’s COVID-safe concert series next month!
Kicking off on July 17 with carpark performances from some of your fave Aussie music acts including The Veronicas and The Wiggles, the gig series will also include sets by Casey Donovan (July 18) Kate Ceberano (July 23 & 24) and comedians Arj Barker, Jimeon, Akmal and Lawrence Mooney.
So how does it work? Well, the audio will be broadcast via the FM radio signal into your car, or if you prefer, you can wind down your window and listen live. Either way, you’ll remain ~untouched~
Drive-In Entertainment Australia is also encouraging punters to get involved by using their windscreen wipers and car horn to simulate applause.
“We like most people in the entertainment industry, we were left devastated when our gigs evaporated overnight,” Drive-In Entertainment Australia Managing Director Samwise Holmes said in a prior statement.
“Rather than let it defeat us, we sought to innovate. Entertainment is what keeps the light on in times like this, we want to keep Australians hopeful and keep entertainers employed – while adhering to strict health regulations.”
It follows similar events being announced for the Sunshine Coast, Melbourne and Sydney, as well as Hockey Dad’s drive-in gigs in their hometown of Wollongong.
