Yesterday marked one year since Tame Impala released their ARIA Award-winning latest album The Slow Rush, and to celebrate, bandleader Kevin Parker dissected the LP in a podcast titled The Slow Rush: A Deep Dive.
The in-depth, 38-minute chat sees Parker discuss his approach to writing, recording and producing the album – and the stories behind songs like ‘Glimmer’, ‘Breathe Deeper’ and ‘One More Year’ – with Aussie music personality Linda Marigliano. The conversation was recorded in late February 2020 in Los Angeles, following the album’s release.
“This was the first time Kevin had opened his laptop and played back sessions to show us what the songs from The Slow Rush are made of,” reads an official synopsis. “This is a slice into one of the world’s best contemporary songwriting and production brains.”
With The Slow Rush up for a Grammy Award next month, Parker is currently looking back on his past. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the band’s debut album Innerspeaker, a deluxe, 4LP reissue of the album is set to arrive on 26th March.
Parker and co. are also currently gearing up to bring their Tame Impala Sound System live performance to a pair of shows at Perth’s Metro City. In this guise, the band will reimagine tracks from across their back catalogue in an electronics-heavy, dance-oriented set – in a similar fashion to their late-night TV performances last year. Tickets are on sale now.
In December of this year, following a string of postponements due to the pandemic, the band will at long last tour The Slow Rush across Australia, taking in arena shows throughout the country.
