The Annandale Hotel Cancels Gigs For Renovations

Sydney’s famed Annandale Hotel will shut its doors next week in order to begin renovations, cancelling all upcoming gigs scheduled for the beloved venue and relocating some shows planned for four months away to other venues. The news comes following an arduous year for the venue.

As theMusic.com.au reports, The Annandale was purchased by the Oscars Hotels Group in May after going into receivership in February, following owners Matt and Dan Rule‘s financial travails, which stemmed from legal disputes with the local Leichhardt Council.

While Dan Rule remained booker of the venue and the Group’s General Manager, Damien Cameron assured theMusic.com.au that the venue would be “continuing live music until the end of the year at least,” there are currently no assurances on the future of live music at The Annandale.

theMusic.com.au also reports that a planning application for 15 Parramatta Road by Parramatta Road Annandale Pty Ltd was lodged with Leichhardt Council last week, seeking the “demolition” of the existing site to build a new retail and commercial space and a 24-room boarding house.

The Annandale Hotel sits on the corner of Nelson Sreet and and Parramatta Road, with the band room located under the 17-19 street address. The 15 address meanwhile includes the laneway smoking area as well as space opposite the venue’s front-room bar.

Shows affected by the Hotel’s sudden closure include Future Of The Left, Hanni El Khatib, and The Smith Street Band, with artists and promoters being encouraged to move their shows to venues such as The Bald Faced Stag, The Standard, and the Oxford Art Factory.

According to FasterLouder, The Annandale will remain closed “for at least four months,” with shows by Deafheaven, Hanni El Khatib and others already moved to other Sydney venues such as The Metro Lair and The Factory Floor. Readers can check below for a current list of relocated shows.

On their official Facebook page, The Smith Street Band announced the relocation of their Annandale show to The Metro Lair, confirming that “The new owners have cancelled all upcoming shows.” Stay tuned to Music Feeds and we’ll keep you updated with details as they come through.
