The Bearded Lady Launches GoFundMe: “Keep The Brisbane Scene Alive”

Beloved Brisbane venue The Bearded Lady is in dire straights and needs your help to stay afloat. The venue’s operators have launched a Go Fund Me Campaign, asking the community for donations to keep the doors open and the amps plugged in.

In a statement on their fundraising page, while thanking punters for their support of live music events over the years, the venue team also acknowledged that “things are becoming more and more difficult”.

“We’re fighting to keep this special space alive”

“Rising trading costs, inflation, and the increasing cost of living have made it harder to keep the doors open, and unfortunately, we’re at a point where we need help from the one group of people we know truly care about this venue and the music scene — you,” they wrote.

“We’re not the type to ask for help easily, but the reality is that without your support, we might have to say goodbye to our beloved Bearded Lady. We’re fighting to keep this special space alive, and with the continued pressures of financial strain, we’re reaching out to ask for your help.”

Operators went on to flag plans to make increase the intimate live music venue’s turnover, pledging to use any proceeds from the GoFundMe to fund their new strategy, and keep The Bearded Lady a “diverse and always welcoming” space going forward.

“We hope to pay off some existing debt and make some minor improvements, upgrading the facilities and expand the overall floor space, that will allow us to keep the music flowing and the Bearded Lady alive and thriving for years to come,” their statement continued.

“Every little bit helps. Whether it’s donating, sharing this campaign, or even just sending us your positive energy, we’d love for you to be a part of this next chapter. ‘The Beardo’ has always been a space for connection, creativity, and community, and we’re not ready to let it go.”

Finally, they thanked fans in advance for their generosity, writing: “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting live music, for supporting The Bearded Lady, and for continuing to show up for the magic we create together.”

So far, their campaign has raised almost $22K, just north of 10% of its $200K target.
