Brisbane indie band The Belligerents are continuing to win over plenty of new fans this year with their ever-expanding brand of psych-rock, and now they’re heading out on a national tour to play for all their new and original fans.
The five-piece will set out to cover the country with an eight-date tour that will end up at Festival Of The Sun in Port Macquarie.
The news comes just as they drop a new single Looking At You taken from their forthcoming EP due out in October. The whole EP is self-produced and is the band’s first release since 2012’s She Calls The Shots.
“We’ve continually been trying to expand sonically as a band and I hope that shows on this new single,” said bass player Konstantin Kersting of Looking At You.
“When we were in the studio this time round we had a lot of time to actually ‘think’ about the sounds, rather than just sticking to the stuff we’ve been doing all along. We experimented with lots of different keyboards, amps and pedals and tried to make it as aurally appealing to the listener as possible.”
This release follows on from a very impressive Like A Version on triple j where the band covered Fatboy Slim’s Praise You and garnered praise from the man himself with Fatboy Slim putting the performance on his Facebook and writing “love this cover”.
It’s been a big 2015 for The Belligerents and this tour is an apt celebration of that. Sydney’s Jenny Broke The Window will provide support on the headline dates, the first of which is on 20th November at Northcote Social Club in Melbourne.
