After taking a lengthy hiatus that saw the band largely inactive throughout 2010, the Killers are apparently about to begin work on a new album, the follow-up to 2008’s Day & Age.
In an interview with UK radio station XFM, drummer Ronnie Vannucci explained that the Las Vegas four-piece are about to embark on what will be the Killers’ fourth LP.
He said, “Tuesday [17 May] I think we’ll start doing some writing again. We have piles of songs we want to show each other. We’re going to get back in that room and start working.”
During the time the band have spent on a break from one another, members have been doing their own thing. Frontman Brandon Flowers released his debut solo album, Flamingo, in September last year while Vanucci has been working hard on his own side project, Big Talk, with whom he is set to release an album later this year, through his own label Micro-Oil. He also teamed up with ‘alt country supergroup’ Mt Desolation in recent times.
In the interview, Vanucci added that while solo projects are well and good, it will be a pleasure to return to the group that made him, Flowers, guitarist Dave Keunig and bassist Mark Soermer, household indie names.
“Because everybody knows where their bread is buttered and that what we do is special, you can’t throw it away,” he said. “It’s guarded and heavily cared for. We don’t want to be away for too long.”
