Disney’s The Lion King – that is, the live-action adaptation that sees Donald Glover and Beyoncé takes the roles of Simba and Nala respectively – is coming to cinemas on July 19.
The film’s soundtrack, however, will be out digitally on July 11, with physical versions coming the same day as the film’s release, through Walt Disney Records. It features brand new songs as well as new arrangements of songs from the original film (such as ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘Be Prepared’.)
As previously announced, the soundtrack includes Bey and Glover, in his Childish Gambino alter-ego, performing their own version of ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’, the Elton John/Tim Rice classic made famous in the original 1994 animated film.
In addition, the soundtrack brings us a new Elton John composition entitled ‘Never Too Late’, also co-written alongside Tim Rice, which will be shown during the film’s credits. It also features selections from composer Hans Zimmer’s film score, African vocal and choir arrangements, and a number of tracks produced by Pharrell.
The tracklist also includes a swathe of recognisable names from the film, such as John Oliver (who voices Zazu), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar) and Billy Eichner (Timon).
Check out the film’s tracklist, and hear a snippet of the new ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ recording, below.
