The Presets’ Julian Hamilton Releases Debut Solo Single

Julian Hamilton, one-half of Sydney electro supremos, The Presets, has released his debut solo single, ‘City of Love’.

Hamilton wrote and produced the throbbing club track during some COVID-inspired downtime. LA-based Sydney producer Cassian co-produced and mixed ‘City of Love’.

Compared to the hyper-extroversion of The Presets’ best-known work, ‘City of Love’ is relatively restrained. It’s got a hard-driving groove, though, and is a promising taste of things to come. ‘City of Love’ is the first in a series of singles Hamilton plans to release over the next few months and into the Australian summer.

While ‘City of Love’ is Hamilton’s first ever solo release, he’s co-written a a number songs with Daniel Johns over the years. He was a major contributor to Silverchair’s Young Modern in 2007, co-writing its chart-topping single, ‘Straight Lines’, and co-wrote a couple of tracks for Johns’ debut solo album, Talk, in 2015. In 2013, Hamilton appeared on the track ‘Higher Love’ from the Kris Menace album, Features.

His band mate in The Presets, drummer and producer Kim Moyes, has released a couple of solo albums under the name K.I.M, including this year’s Phenomena. The Presets’ latest album, Hi Viz, came out in June 2018 and Hamilton and Moyes teamed up with Golden Features for the 2019 EP, Raka.
