The Primitives formed in Coventry, in England’s West midlands, in the mid-1980s. It wasn’t until original vocalist Keiron McDermott made way for Tracy Tracy in 1986 that the band began to assert its artistic voice. Tracy’s influence sparked a melodic shift for the band, which was central to the crossover success of Lovely.

The Primitives’ current lineup features Tracy, founding guitarist Paul Court and drummer Tig Williams, who’s been a core member since 1987. The band split up in 1991 but reformed in 2009 following the death of former bass player, Steve Dullaghan. Their latest LP is 2014’s Spin-O-Rama.
