There’s A Biopic In The Works About Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister

A biopic is in the works about the late great Motörhead frontman Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister, who died back in 2015 following a battle with cancer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Greg Olliver, who directed a documentary on the iconic metal legend titled Lemmy in 2010 is set to direct the film, based on a screenplay written by Medeni Griffiths. The forthcoming film is tentatively titled Lemmy as well, and will reportedly focus on Kilmister’s youth in England, his time as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix, his days as a member of Hawkwind and, of course, his 40-year career as the frontman of Motörhead.

“Everything you’ve heard about Lemmy is probably true… not because he was embracing rock n’ roll clichés, but because he was creating them. Marlboro Reds and Jack Daniel’s for breakfast, speed for dinner — all true,” commented Olliver in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

“But behind that steely-eyed façade of rock n’ roll was also a compelling, complicated and lion-hearted man who stayed the course and never gave up playing the music that made him happy. We’ve been carefully developing this biopic since 2013, making sure to stay true to Lemmy, Motörhead band members Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, and all the other folks that played important roles in Lemmy’s life. This will be a film they’ll be proud of.”

Casting has not yet begun for the film, which is slated to enter production in 2021.
