Timberlake Thanks "Everybody Except Donald Sterling" For Billboard Award Win

The 2014 Billboard Music Awards have come to an end at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, leaving in its wake a happy Justin Timberlake — who took home seven awards including Top Artist — and a rather incredulous Lorde, whose hit Royals nabbed the Top Rock Song award.

Timberlake was the man of the evening, with his 2013 album The 20/20 Experience bringing home the gold in the categories of Top Billboard 200 Album as well as Top R&B Album, and Timberlake himself scoring massive wins in just about every Artist category that Billboard have an award for.

Timberlake was joined by his band while accepting the award for Top Artist backstage. The singer thanked the other nominees, stating humorously, “It’s not a competition, but if it was, I won!” He then thanked “everybody on Earth,” except disgraced former LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

Right behind JT were Las Vegas boys Imagine Dragons, who took home five awards, including Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Duo/Group, and Top Rock Artist, while Blurred Lines nabbed Robin Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell Williams four awards, among them, Top Hot 100 Song, and Top Digital Song.

Aussies were in full force during the ceremony, with performances from Queensland rapper Iggy Azalea, who was joined by Charli XCX and Ariana Grande to perform Fancy and Problem, while Kendall Jenner almost introduced Sydney pop punk boys 5 Seconds Of Summer as One Direction.

Another questionable occurrence was Lorde receiving the award for Top Rock Song. Much as we love the talented Kiwi, even Lorde herself confusedly flashed a corna before thanking the “superhuman” effort of her label. The telecast also featured a performance of her hit Tennis Court.

Among the other performances was a notable appearance from the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, who appeared in hologram form to perform Slave To The Rhythm, from the legendary performer’s recently released compilation of previously unreleased studio material, Xscape.

We also saw a trippy performance from Miley Cyrus — who took home the Top Streaming Artist trophy — who received help from Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd on a rendition of The Beatles‘ Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, which will soon be released as a single.

Viewers were also treated to two performances from Jennifer Lopez — among a total of 19 musical performances — a premiere of the Miranda Lambert-Carrie Underwood duet Somethin’ Bad, and Katy Perry managed to pop in remotely from London for a performance of her Billboard hit, Birthday.
