We’re 53 songs in with 47 more to be revealed in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2014 countdown and so far Australian acts are dominating with acts like Vance Joy, Kingswood, Ball Park Music, The Amity Affliction, Thundamentals and Sticky Fingers all charting twice already.
This year triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2014 recorded over 2 million votes, the most ever received in the poll’s history. At the half-way point, Australian artists are in fact responsible for 31 out of the top 50 songs in the countdown.
The announcement was made on air by presenter Lewi McKirdy and listeners were directed to a new website – triplejfeed.com – which, as a direct jab at Buzzfeed (who spearheaded the #Tay4Hottest100 campaign) features a listicle titled ‘8 Hilarious But Totally True Reasons You Won’t Hear “Shake It Off” In The Hottest 100’. Read a rundown of their reasons here.
Interestingly, 2014’s triple j Unearthed High winner, Japanese Wallpaper officially made his Hottest 100 debut making it in at number 97. Earlier this week, it was predicted by the people behind the Social Hottest 100 that the young musician would be pushed out of the top 100 if Swift did in fact make the cut.
Frontrunners Chet Faker and Peking Duk have yet to make an appearance but are likely to start stacking numbers in the top end of the list.
