Triple J‘s massive, free regional concert is back for 2014 with the station announcing on air this morning that fans attending the One Night Stand 2014 will flock to the town of Mildura in northwestern Victoria. The musical pilgrimage will take place on Saturday, May 17.
Triple J breakfast hosts Matt and Alex called into the Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne early this morning to break the news. Alongside the massive homegrown lineup, other Mildura draw-cards, according to the Mayor, are the region’s wine and citrus, the Murray River and Australia’s best steak restaurant.
Mayor Milne assured the hosts Mildura has a burgeoning live music scene. “The locals love their music,” said the Mayor, who coincidentally is a huge Dan Sultan fan. “With so many people there it will be the biggest event ever.”
Triple J also announced details for this year’s Unearthed competition, where an act from the region will be chosen to take the stage at the festival. If you’re from Mildura or the surrounding area and want to be considered, upload your tracks to triple j Unearthed before Thursday 3 April. The winner will be announced on Monday 14 April.
Artists already playing the 2014 event were announced by various Triple J presenters earlier in the week. Magnetic Melbourne MC Illy and suave Melbourne rock ‘n’ roller Dan Sultan will helm the event, alongside Brissie’s The Jungle Giants and Violent Soho and Sydney sweethearts RüFüS.
The Triple J One Night Stand will be broadcast and live streamed again this year after the multiplatform simulcast was debuted last year.
