triple j’s ‘short.fast.loud’ Is Moving To Double J In 2025

Big changes are afoot for heavy music on the triple j airwaves next year. Following the announcement that host of Tuesday night metal show The Racket, Lochlan Watt, will be hanging up the microphone at the end of the year, it’s now been announced that Short Fast Loud host Josh Merriel is leaving too, and taking the punk and hardcore show with him.

As confirmed on Wednesday night’s show, Short Fast Loud will be moving over to sister station Double J in 2025.

“The new era of heavy music on triple j”

“Short Fast Loud will exist in 2025,” Josh announced live on the airwaves.

“But Short Fast loud is moving to Double J, which is triple j’s sister station. Skews to a bit of an older demographic which means that I can play a bit more throwbacks.”

He continued: “So Short Fast Loud won’t change too much, it’s just going to exist on Double J. You can still listen to it on the app, you can listen to it on digital radios on your television, streaming through the internet.

“But I’m pretty damn excited for the future. I’m excited for a change, I’m excited for a challenge, I’m excited for something a little bit different.”

Meanwhile, the ABC has confirmed The Racket will be rebranded, likely to cover the full spectrum of punk, rock, hardcore and metal that will be missing on the airwaves in the absence of Short Fast Loud, promising a “new era of heavy music on triple j”.

They’re putting the call out for a new host. If you’re interested you can apply here.
