Urban Gypsies Quartet CD Launch

Urban Gypsies have performed at numerous festivals and clubs around Australia for almost a decade. They have held residencies and sold out concerts in exclusive venues including The Vanguard, Perth Concert Hall, Perth Entertainment Centre, Side on Cafe, Cargo Bar, Café Sydney, Watershed Hotel and Hemmesphere. Among their many highlights they also supported and played with the Buena Vista Social Club, Cassandra Wilson, Kristina Olsen, Lolo Lovina and Demis Roussos.

Urban Gypsies have previously released two CD’s. Their fiery debut album Gypsy Fever (2000) received rave reviews, kick starting a huge wave of concerts and events. It also lead to their second more explorative album Sauvage (2003) with band member Simon Phillips. Following on from this, guitarist Gordon Tan joined the band to formulate their latest oeuvre Beautiful Catastrophe. The now re-formed group – compromising of Gavin Libotte and Dieter Kleemann- pack a powerhouse of improvisational skills and innovative compositions that explore instrumental Jazz / Latin guitar music with a unique and contemporary edge.
