Watch Alison Wonderland Put Her Own Spin On A Smashing Pumpkins Classic

Aussie super-producer Alison Wonderland performed on the weekend as part of Lollapalooza’s digital festival, Lolla2020; a live-streamed event launched after the IRL one was iced by COVID-19.

Performing alongside a stacked list of huge names including Jane’s Addiction, Kaskade, ZHU and more, the Sydney DJ delivered a short live-streamed set, which included her original tune ‘Run’, an unreleased track called ‘Bad Things’, as well as a curveball cover of a song by one of her “all-time favourite bands”, The Smashing Pumpkins.

Wonderland surprised fans by putting her own spin on Billy Corgan & co’s Siamese Dream classic ‘Disarm’, dishing up a moody, minimalist arrangement of the grunge ballad, dominated by lashings of drop-tuned vocoder-style vocals and building with layers of filthy synth stabs.

The DJ dedicated the cover to her teenage self, revealing that the song ‘Disarm’ helped her survive high school.

“This next song is a really special song to me. It’s one of my all-time favourite songs by one of my all-time favourite bands, The Smashing Pumpkins, from Chicago,” Wonderland told the internet.

“I just wanted to do a little ode to Chicago, because Lollapalooza. This song is called ‘Disarm’. It’s the song that got me through high school, so this is for my high school self right now.”
