Pearl Jam champ Eddie Vedder has thrashed his way into TV history, becoming one of late night talk show legend David Letterman‘s final ever musical guests with a string-breaking performance of his classic, Better Man.
Vedder joined Hollywood heavyweight Tom Hanks in the third-last episode of the King of late night’s titular program, which is scheduled to air on Australian TV, tonight.
Joined by The Late Show‘s Paul Schafer on piano, the Pearl Jam singer delivered a fierce performance, with his trademark intense vibrato and some fretboard-smoking solo guitar work that even saw him snap a string.
Other recent musical guests to make a splash during Letterman’s final countdown run have included Future Islands and a touching tribute by comedian Adam Sandler.
According to Sky, tomorrow’s episode will feature actor Bill Murray and the legendary Bob Dylan as guests, before the big finale show on Wednesday.
