Father John Misty, aka John Tillman, busted out an awesome if unexpected cover at a gig that went down in Chicago overnight.
The enigmatic performer and music personality, who has in the past live-tweeted a terrible tinder date, and attended a Taylor Swift show on acid, prefaced the song by making an announcement to a lively crowd. “It’s a little sappy, but I would like to play my favourite love-song for you” said Tillman, before busting out the first lyric of Nine Inch Nails‘ track Closer; “You let me violate you..”
The Nine Inch Nails cover was everything you wouldn’t have expected from the folk-singer, as he performed a synth-heavy cover complete with a dirty bassline and some heavily distorted guitar. It was something to behold, and in every way imaginable a performance that only Father John Misty could have pulled off.
