Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda has debuted a new song, paying tribute to his bandmate Chester Bennington at a memorial concert for the frontman in LA.
Bennington passed away in July and this weekend artists including Blink-182, Alanis Morissette and Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes came together to pay tribute.
Shinoda appeared alone for one of the night’s most emotional moments, debuting a new song called Looking For An Answer. He’s not sure whether they will release the song officially but he gave the crowd a rough, piano-led version of the song.
“We were doing a photo thing when I found out about Chester. For hours I was in disbelief…fast forward, you go through a whole roller coaster of things, eventually I realised that one of the things that helps me get through things in not only listening to music but actually playing music,” Shinoda said, introducing the song.
“I didn’t have the courage to listen to our music yet…but I sat down in my studio and I wrote something. It was about eight days after.”
The song is lyrically raw, directly addressing Bennington’s death with lyrics like, “There’s an emptiness tonight that wasn’t’ there before/And I keep reaching for the light/I can’t find it anymore.”
The entire show has now been put up online and you can watch it in full below. It includes Shinoda’s tribute but there is also a seperate video of the song below too.
