When Neil Finn first penned Crowded House‘s Don’t Dream It’s Over, he likely never imagined that the Aussie (OK fine, New Zealand) rock powerhouse’s biggest international hit would go on to one day be performed by Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande, dressed in cute animal onesies and sitting on an inflatable green couch in Cyrus’s backyard. But don’t let their outlandish wardrobe fool you – the furry divas’ duet rendition is actually every bit as on point as Cyrus’s unicorn hoodie (ba-dum tssh).
Grande is the latest guest to appear on the Bangerz singer’s new video jam series Backyard Sessions, which, contrary to what you might think, is much more than just the latest platform for Hannah Montana to show off her grown-up twerking skillz and superhuman tongue-pokery. The series has been launched to help raise awareness about a new charitable initiative Cyrus has founded, called ‘The Happy Hippie Foundation’ for homeless LGBT youth.
Cyrus kicked off her Happy Hippie Foundation Backyard Sessions series with collaborations with rocker Joan Jett, with a cover of Androgynous, and Laura Jane Grace from Against Me!, with a stirring performance of Against Me!’s True Trans Soul Rebel.
And this week, Grande has popped by for a duet/vocal duel with Cyrus, who has described her as “the sweetest little #happyhippie bear-mouse ever!” in a Facebook post.
Watch the unicorn and the bear-mouse team up on a Crowded House classic for a good cause, below.
