As we reported last week, Missy Elliott is this year’s recipient of MTV’s Video Vanguard award. As per tradition, the recipient performs a medley of their greatest hits and, also as per usual, Missy Elliott did not disappoint.
She kicked things off with her brand new single ‘Throw It Back’ before taking us on a journey through her biggest hits of the past two decades. Giving us a new look with each song, she gave us bangers like ‘The Rain’, ‘Get Ur Freak On’, ‘Work It’, ‘Pass That Dutch’ and, of course, ‘Lose Control.’
She then took to the stage to give her acceptance speech with her award, presented by Cardi B, and thanked a whole stack of people including – but not limited to – Janet Jackson, Busta Rhymes and, of course, Timbaland. She also took a moment to pay tribute to Aaliyah – who tragically passed away just over 18 years ago.
She also made sure to dedicate the award to dance communities all across the world, recognising that they’re part of what makes her videos so special.
