WATCH: Paul Williams On Daft Punk: “You Can’t Get Any Hipper” + Radio Interview

The latest news today here at Daft Punk Feeds: the insatiable electronic teases have released The Collaborators: Paul Williams, episode 8 in the video series of interviews with, uh, their collaborators. If you’re not familiar with the Academy Award-winning songwriter, you definitely know his music – Williams wrote songs like Bowie‘s Fill Your Heart and The CarpentersWe’ve Only Just Begun, as well as The Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie.

“I mean, you can’t get any hipper, any more current, any more adventurous, any more courageous in the world of music than Daft Punk,” says the 72-year-old, who takes credit for inspiring Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter to wear their robot helmets. The songwriter, who collaborates on Random Access Memories track Touch, even gets into his own experience of drugs and fame-chasing. You can watch the 8-minute interview below.

If you’ve been playing along at home, you’ll probably realise that the only collaborator we haven’t heard from yet is The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas, who features on track 5, Instant Crush, which early reviewers have described as having one of the biggest hooks on the record. We’re expecting that instalment sometime over the next week.

Daft Punk have also been interviewed by Pete Tong on BBC’s Radio 1, which you can take a listen to below. Bangalter seems to confirm the duo’s stance on not filming full-length videos for their singles, saying “We wanted to try and experiment with formats, working with 15, 30 and 60-second extended ads. There’s more excitement in the one-minute format than a three-minute format. The last thing we wanted to do was to take this rich musical album and stuff it with too many visuals.”

With just 6 days to go until Random Access Memories, we might not be doing quite enough. Can we install a disco-themed countdown on the home page? IT? We need a mirror-ball in the office, stat. Thanks.
