Watch Pearl Jam’s Big Day Out Cover Songs

Grunge legends Pearl Jam are currently kicking it around the country for the Big Day Out tour and they’ve been injecting a little bit of cover action into their setlists, with Eddie Vedder and company paying tribute to some classic bands.

The alt rock pioneers gave a nod to Down Under legends Hunters & Collectors on Australia Day at the Sydney Big Day Out, covering their tune Throw Your Arms Around Me. Vedder’s clearly a big fan of the track, having played it with both Pearl Jam and in his solo sets previously, and even playing it with songwriter Mark Seymour back in 1996.

They also tackled fellow Seattleites Mother Love Bone‘s Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns, the signature song from a band whose career was tragically cut short when lead singer Andrew Wood died of a heroin overdose just days before their debut album was set to be released. Pearl Jam members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard were both in Mother Love Bone and the song is regularly put into their live set.

We were waiting for this next one since both Mudhoney‘s and Pearl Jam were announced on the Big Day Out lineup. The bands have a good deal of history, with Gossard and Ament both playing in Mudhoney for a time as well. At both the Melbourne and Sydney editions of BDO, PJ were joined on stage by Mudhoney’s Mark Arm to treat the massive crowd to MC5‘s Kick Out The Jams.

The Big Day Out wraps up in Adelaide on Friday, 31st January and Perth on Sunday, 2nd February, before Vedder kicks of a solo tour of the country in Perth on Friday, 7th February.
