With a resurgence in surf rock/pop behind acts such as Best Coast and Wavves, it’s only fitting The Beach Boys will return with a brand new album on June 5, 2012 to show the youngsters how it’s done.
According to Consequence of Sound, the new record features all of the surviving members and comprises all totally original songs.
Billboard reported that lead single That’s Why God Made the Radio was considered for the title track but then deemed too long.
When speaking with Billboard Bruce Johnston said the record is driven by the collaboration of Brian Wilson and Mike Love.
“There’s a lot of what you’d hope to hear from Brian (Wilson) on there. It’s not a quilt or a pot luck dinner; it’s not like, ‘OK, everybody show up with your songs.’ It’s not one of those kind of albums. There’s a lot of Brian in there, and Mike (Love). It’s just nice to know there is a Mike Love and a Brian Wilson still around to write together”, Johnston said.
The Beach Boys are currently on the road for their reunion tour.
