Wollongong garage-punk outfit HOON are packing their bags for a mammoth run of live dates around Europe, in honour of their recently-announced album Speed and Fatigue.
Produced by Jeremy Player and The Shed Sound Laboratory (Pist Idiots, The Pinheads), the local exports’ forthcoming LP is due to ravage our eardrums on Friday, 30th May. And to celebrate the big announcement, the band have shared the first cut of the record with fans, a chaotic, visceral dose of punk dubbed ‘Simon Says’ (listen below).
HOON – ‘Simon Says’
“Lyrically, ‘Simon Says’ delves into the impacts of divorce on youth development, exploring confusion and identity through confrontational wordplay,” the band explains.
“The song’s unrelenting energy mirrors this turbulence. We recorded this song with Jeremy at the same place where we recorded our first ever tracks 10+ years ago – back then, we used a budget SM58 dangling from a ceiling fan and a JVC tape deck. A lot’s changed since, and it felt like a full-circle moment.”
In keeping with their DIY ethos, HOON have also revealed a gritty music video for the track, filmed by frontman Daniel Breda in his lounge room.
“It conveys the chronology of a relationship breakdown due to alcohol and gambling abuse in a tongue-in-cheek way by placing the characters as a family of dice,” Bredaa shares. “It’s a funny visual portrayal of the emotional unravelling described in the song.”
After previously sharing stages with the likes of SPEED, Belair Lip Bombs and Clowns and running all ages festivals in their hometown of the Gong such as ‘All Of Us’, ‘Crown Street Takeover’, ‘Hoon-Fest’ and ‘The Gong Crawl’, HOON will jet over to Europe this June and July for a whopping 30+ date tour to toast their new LP.
We’re told Australian dates will be announced in the near future. Watch this space!
