ZZ Top New Record ‘La Futura’ Due Out September

A band that represents beards perhaps even more feverishly than The Beards themselves, ZZ Top is all set to release their first LP in almost a decade, according to NME. La Futura is due out September 10 and will be the 15th studio record from the band, whose epic career spans across 5 decades.

Recorded at Mailbu’s Shangri La Studios and Foam Box Recordings in Houston, La Futura was produced by Rick Rubin and ZZ Top’s own Bill Gibbons. When speaking about the direction of the new album, Gibbons told NME that the band attempted to bring together sounds of the past with the recording devices of today.

“We thought long and hard about what this album should be. We wanted to recall the directness of our early stuff but not turn our backs on contemporary technology. The result of this melding of the past and the present is, of course, ‘La Futura’.”

NME also notes that ZZ Top once turned down a million dollar deal to shave off their iconic facial hair, with the band saying no to the lucrative offer from shaving giants Gillette.

“No dice. Even adjusted for inflation, this isn’t going to fly. The prospect of seeing oneself in the mirror clean-shaven is too close to a Vincent Price film…a prospect not to be contemplated, no matter the compensation,” Gibbons told Brave Words, according to NME.
