Foo Fighter’s Taylor Hawkins Cast As Iggy Pop In CBGB

CBGB is the upcoming film that tells the tale of the legendary 1970s New York club Country, Bluegrass and Blues (CBGB), a club that became infamous for its instrumental role in the New Wave and American punk rock music movements. Club founder Hilly Kristal began the club with the intention of showcasing bands that invoked ‘its namesake musical styles’, but his desire to play alternative forms of music led to CBGB becoming synonymous with punk rock until its eventual closure in 2006.

The new film based on CBGB follows the club from its origins to what it eventually became. Alan Rickman is signed on to play the role of Kristal, while Malin Akerman will act as Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, and Joel David Moore will appear as Joey Ramone.

In further casting news, Pedestrian TV has reported that Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins has apparently been cast as Iggy Pop. As pointed out by Pedestrian TV, Hawkins has never starred in a major film before but does bare a resemblance to Iggy back in his younger-ish days.

CBGB is expected to premiere in 2013.
