UPDATE 20/12/16: Someone remade the Government ad about Sydney’s “cool” nightlife, and it’s perfect.
ORIGINAL STORY: The New South Wales Government needs to work on its political propaganda skills, because ain’t nobody buying what it’s selling. At least, that’s the message coming from some citizens of the internet, who have risen up as one to rip shreds off Premier Mike Baird‘s new promo video spruiking Sydney’s “cool” nightlife.
The three-minute cringefest (below), which was recently uploaded to the Transport For NSW Facebook page, follows a singer/dancer named Jayden and his m8s as they embark on a wild night out in Haymarket and hit up “some of the city’s coolest spots that the whole crew can enjoy”.
“There is so much to discover from movies and shows to VR Gaming and night markets,” our state leaders proclaim in the video description. “We’re building new transport links but George Street is very much open for business. #LiveItUpLocally”
Hooooooo boy.
Needless to say, watching this group of wholesome 20-somethings laugh and high-five their way across Sydney’s post-apocalyptically desolate CBD and enjoy a movie inside a completely deserted cinema while the protagonist unconvincingly reads from the most painful script of all time about how “cool” and “where it’s at” Sydney is, has sparked a strong reaction from the internet.
“This a pisstake, right?” one punter asked, while another quipped: “It’s like Stoner Sloth all over again!”
Either the ad agency responsible for the clip is the WORST EVER, or else they’re subversive geniuses, trolling the Government that commissioned them to make an ad about how hip Sydney is since the lockout laws came in with a video that clearly does the exact opposite.
