The last we heard of The Owls, they were unveiling their sublime single Krakow, the first taste of their forthcoming Own the Streets EP. Since then, the boys have released an accompanying music video, announced new tour dates, and now they’ve unveiled their raucous new single, Ocean.
Since forming in 2008, everyone from Triple J onwards has been predicting big things for this Newcastle four-piece and their no-frills style of gritty rock and roll, who’ve been tempering their live chops with support slots for the likes of Wolf & Cub and their own acclaimed headline shows.
Besides forging a reputation as one of the country’s hardest-working rock acts, The Owls have been putting in some serious songwriting hours. Ocean perfectly illustrates the band’s new songcrafting sophistication, with intricate tempo and mood shifts, though retaining their bluesy core.
