Did MGMT Just Out Themselves On The Lineup For Splendour In The Grass 2018?

MGMT have got gums flapping that they could be headed down under for Splendour In The Grass this year.

The electropop legends have just confirmed 2018 Aussie tour plans, with lead vocalist Andrew VanWyngarden telling The Music “There is something in the pipeline”.

“I’m not sure when things are announced. But, yeah, we’ll be setting foot on Australian soil this year, for sure,” he said.

However, since the band have already been confirmed on the lineup for Japan’s Fuji Rock festival, which goes down the weekend after Splendour, it’s very likely that the group will be hitting Australia right on Splendour O’Clock.

Splendour and Fuji Rock traditionally share a number of acts. For instance, last year’s headliners LCD Soundsystem, The xx and Queens Of The Stone Age all hit both fests.

ICYMI: The Wombats have become the first band to out themselves on the bill for SITG18, spilling the beans that they’re “definitely” playing Splendour this year, while the Arctic Monkeys are also a hot tip for the lineup, with a huge Splendour-sized hole in their tour schedule.

Whereas a number of high profile acts have also already been rules out of Splendour 2018, including the likes of The Killers, Liam Gallagher, Travis Scott and Gorillaz.

Splendour In The Grass is scheduled to take place between 20th and 22nd July.

Time will tell whether MGMT will be heading to Byron Bay for this year’s festivities! But either way, it looks like we’ll be seeing them live on Aussie soil before the year is out.
