NYE Water Festival Cancelled Last Minute

The NYE Water Festival, which was set to take place tonight at Wet’n’Wild water park in Western Sydney boasting a lineup featuring Will Sparks, Tigerlily, and Yolanda Be Cool, has been cancelled last-minute by promoters, who cited unspecified technical production issues as the cause.

“One Cube Entertainment, an external entertainment promotions company organizing the event, has made the decision to postpone the planned NYE Festival promoted at Wet’n’Wild Sydney due to a major technical production issue,” the organisers announced via the Wet’n’Wild website today.

“A new date has been selected for the event, which will now take place on Australia Day 2014 (Sunday 26 January). A spokesman for One Cube Entertainment stated ‘We have made the very difficult decision to postpone our New Years Eve event at Wet’n’Wild Sydney.'”

“‘This decision is in the best interest of our patrons due to some last minute production issues. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and are currently working on something even better for Australia Day at Wet’n’Wild Sydney,’” added the spokesman in the statement.

The Australia Day event will reportedly feature a new lineup, including “the addition of some brand new headliners” to be announced shortly. One Cube Entertainment will be contacting ticket-holders with additional information on the new event later today, though no word regarding refunds.

The NYE Water Festival Facebook page is currently being inundated with irate ticket-holders, many of whom drove interstate to attend the sold-out New Year’s Eve event. Some have noted that the festival continued to promote the event and sell tickets after announcing the cancellation.

UPDATE: Yolanda Be Cool, who were set to play at tonight’s event, have issued a statement via their Facebook page, in which they cite “Health & Safety issues surrounding the NYE party at Wet N Wild” as the reason behind the cancellation. They write:

Due to Health & Safety issues surrounding the NYE party at Wet N Wild the event has been postponed and therefore we will not be performing tonight. We are as disappointed as you guys must be, but it is totally out of our control. We wish you all a MASSIVE and happy New Year whatever you may be doing. Go hard but be safe. andy & matt xx
