Police Officer Questioned Over Big Day Out Dance Video

A Victoria Police officer has been questioned after a video of her dancing in uniform with a gun in her holster whilst on duty at the Big Day Out 2014 surfaced online. The dancing officer was cheered on by a reported crowd of 1000 festival-goers during a performance at the event’s Boiler Room.

“She took a minute out of her day to have a dance to obviously music she enjoyed at the Big Day Out, that is entirely fine by me,” Jack Van De Ven, who was in attendance at the festival and shot the footage of the unidentified female officer, told Seven News. “She loved it,” he added.

“Everyone was pretty happy with it. There was a lot of discussions afterward saying, ‘Gee, it was good to see that cop getting into it.’ A lot of people maybe give the cops a rough time. It was a good way to brighten up their image,” Van De Ven said, and Victoria Police seem to agree.

After launching an enquiry into the conduct of the officer, the Police Association Victoria have said that the video shows the human side of the state’s law enforcement, which can sometimes be forgotten by the community, and that the video has become a positive public relations tool.

“The member in our view has taken part in a great public relations exercise,” spokesperson Bruce McKenzie told Seven News. “Victoria Police wouldn’t be able to pay for the public relations that this member has displayed at no cost to the organisation.” Readers can see the footage, below.
