The Stiffys’ New Song Perfectly Captures Love In The Time Of Pokémon GO

Well, it’s official. Pokémon GO has well and truly penetrated the zeitgeist to the point where great workers The Stiffys have immortalised the app in song. The (do)duo have released a perfectly fitting love song set in the age of Pokémon GO and the challenges we all now face with our relationships.

The band are currently whittling away on their next EP Rock Art Two with The Pokemon Go Song released to tide fans over while they put on the finishing touches. As it turns out, the EP has been severely delayed since the release of Pokémon GO, as the band explain, which put their producer Steven Schram in a sticky position…

“HE SAID HOW ABOUT WE MAKE A SONG ABOUT IT. [It] WAS THE ONLY WAY HE COULD GET US BACK TO WORK,” says bass player Jason Leigh.

Now that they’d crossed that bridge, the next concern was relevancy. Now nearing a week old, Pokémon GO’s currency dwindles by the minute, further focusing the boys to release the song before even leaving the studio. True Poké Masters.

Ultimately, as the song warns, Pokémon GO is bad news for couples. But good news if your partner gets run over playing it. Gimme those candies.

UPDATE 14/07/16: The Stiffys have released the music video for The Pokemon Go Song, which you can catch in all its glory, below.
