System Of A Down Have Started Writing New Songs Together

It’s been almost a decade since the release of System Of A Down’s last record Hypnotize but now it seems we finally have some evidence that new music is starting to take shape.

In an interview with Madcap Music Review in January which has just surfaced, System Of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian responded to a question as to whether there’s a chance the band will head back into the studio soon with, “Yeah, there’s a very good chance. I don’t have a date. We’ve already gone. We’ve written some songs. We’re keeping it to ourselves. We’re getting back to the bullshit of being together.”

The band has flirted with the idea of recording new material, however, there’s never been any news that the band has actually started writing. Earlier this year frontman Serj Tankian told Rolling Stone, “The openness is there to work together, but we haven’t made any particular plans that we can announce.”

System Of A Down officially went on hiatus in 2006 only to announce in 2010 that they would reunite to play select live shows. Last year they only played one show, however, there are set to be plenty more live performances this year.

They are about to embark on a world tour to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide carried out during World War I. The tour will kick off on 6th April at The Forum in California and includes a free show in Armenia on 23rd April. The band will also play Amnesia Rockfest in Canada in June and Rock In Rio in Brazil in September. There are no plans yet to bring the tour to Australia.
