Triple J Hottest 100 2013 – Live Updates

It’s 26th January and that guarantees three things – barbecues will be lit in record numbers, there’s a Big Day Out happening somewhere in the country and, of course, triple j are unveiling the Hottest 100 2013, the top 100 songs of the year as voted by the public.

This year’s list once again came pre-loaded with a collection of official teasers for the day. These are the stats, according to triple j:

· 1,492,619 votes cast

· 173,658 voters from 169 countries

· Australian artists made up 44% of the poll

· 42 songs from artists making their Hottest 100 debut

· The month in which the most Hottest 100 songs were released was May

For the second year in a row the Warmest 100 has attempted to snatch the wind from the sails of anticipation, analysing a sample of Hottest 100 votes through social media to predict the results of the official list. After last year’s hit and miss Warmest 100, though, it’s still largely anyone’s guess.

triple j has also found itself under scrutiny from the media in the lead up to this year’s Hottest 100, facing criticism over a perceived sound bias. No-one seems to have pinned down this “triple j sound”. Will the Hottest 100 reveal discrepancies between the station’s most played songs and what its listeners want to hear?

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the results as they come in and updating this page with the milestones as they hit. The countdown begins at midday AEDT, so keep an eye on the page and enjoy the day!
