triple j‘s forthcoming 40th anniversary birthday concert Beat The Drum just got even bigger. This morning, the national broadcaster has revealed a plethora of acts have been added to the event’s lineup, including Silverchair’s Daniel Johns, Gotye, Powderfinger’s Bernard Fanning, Megan Washington and hip hop group Thundamentals to name a few.
Also added as special guests this morning are singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko, Dave Faulkner (Hoodoo Gurus), rockers DZ Deathrays, Hermitude, rapper Illy, Horrorshow, Paul Dempsey, Drapht, Briggs with Trials and more. View the full updated lineup, packed with Australian music royalty, below.
Beat The Drum will take place in The Domain in Sydney on Friday, 16th January as part of Sydney Festival, and will be broadcast live on triple j. Acts previously announced include Hilltop Hoods, The Presets, Vance Joy, Ball Park Music and The Preatures, who will each be performing full sets.
triple j are promising “heaps of surprises along the way, including some incredible acoustic arrangements, unexpected collaborations and covers of legendary Australian hits”. Wally De Backer, aka Gotye, this morning told triple j he is also hoping to see a special original piece on “the sound history of triple j” come to life at Beat The Drum.
An exhibition, television documentary, book and CD will be released next year in celebration of triple j‘s 40th birthday.
