V Oz Artist Award 2013 Top 50 Nominees Announced

Written by Greg Moskovitch on October 5, 2013

The gauntlet has been officially thrown, the Top 50 nominees for the [V] Oz Artist 2013 have been unveiled, featuring 50 of our finest homegrown artists, including Alison Wonderland, Birds Of Tokyo, Dead Letter Circus, Iggy Azalea, and more.

In its seventeenth year, the [V] Oz Artist has become something of an institution of the Australian music industry. The award’s purpose is simple: find Australia’s favourite act, as voted by the fans, forgoing the usual racket of consulting “music industry honchos.”

The winner, selected out of a longlist of 50 (the most recent of which readers can check out below), is then announced on Channel [V], and reigns supreme as Australia’s favourite artist for the next year, and you put them there.

“We want to know just which local artist gets the most spins on your playlist,” said the organisers “[what] has you front and centre at their gigs and generally just floats your boat.” Channel [V] have made it clear that this award is about two things: the music and the fans.

The Top 50 for 2013 were announced this morning on The Riff, with names long-familiar to fans of the award — Hilltop Hoods, The Presets, Guy Sebastian — as well as a whole host of new blood. The list makes it clear that 2013 has been a big year of Aussie music.

Capping off the list is the 2013 Wildcard entry, once again as voted by you. This year’s [V] Oz Artist Wildcard is none other than 5 Seconds Of Summer. Making their way from small clubs in Sydney to sharing the stage with One Direction, 2013 has been a mega year for these boys

Starting Tuesday, 8th October, artists who are low on votes will slowly be eliminated from the list. Channel [V] will be announcing which artists are at risk of receiving the chop throughout each day, leaving fans until 8pm to save them from elimination by voting at the Channel [V] website.

Besides getting the chance to see your favourite artist join the awesome ranks of previous winners like Seth Sentry, Silverchair, and 360, there’s now even more incentive to get online and vote for your favourite Australian artist.

Channel [V] have announced that every vote cast for the [V] Oz Artist 2013 will put the voter in the draw to win $10,000!

The Top 4 finalists will be announced on 10:30am Saturday, 24th November live on The Riff, with the winner of [V] Oz Artist 2013 revealed on Saturday, 7th December. Jump on the Channel [V] website and get voting now!
