Watch: Paul McCartney On Stage With Damon Albarn’s ‘Africa Express’

On a mission to inspire interest in the vastly different musical cultures of Africa and the UK, Blur‘s Damon Albarn has led a troop of around 80 musicians through his homeland. As the Africa Express continues to tour along the train lines of London, they’ve made some surprise stops, and brought some surprise guests along with them.

During the gig in London on Saturday night, Paul McCartney joined the likes of Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, afrobeat drummer Tony Allen, Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, and many more, not to mention Albarn himself, according to Consequence of Sound. The musicians performed the Wings mega hits Coming Up and Goodnight Tonight.

Luckily the moment was captured on a fan’s phone, which you can check out below. Damon Albarn brought together the collective of UK and African musicians to champion the concept, aimed to broaden people’s musical and cultural horizons.
