Watch Pharrell Get Teary During Oprah Interview

There’s little doubt in anyone’s mind who owned 2014. From phenomenal collaborations with Robin Thicke (Blurred Lines) and Daft Punk (Get Lucky) to his own smash, Happy, Pharrell Williams has dominated the last 12 months, and he’s not oblivious the emotional weight of his mammoth success.

During a recent appearance on Oprah Prime, host Oprah Winfrey played Williams a montage of fan-created YouTube videos made in tribute to Happy from around the world, including clips made by fans, school kids, and dance troupes in Venice Beach, Dakar, Germany, Taiwan, and Detroit.

Overcome, the superstar polymath found himself in tears. “I was just thinking of your grandmother,” Winfrey says. “I bet she didn’t even imagine that.” He confesses, “It’s overwhelming because I love what I do and people have believed in me for so long that I can make it to this point, to feel that.”
